Customize your Windows 95+ PC for Conspiracy X

This page is designed to teach you how to change your W95+ to boot up and shut down in 'X' mode. Conspiracy X Wallpaper is also available for your PC here. If you already know how to use your computer to the extent that you know how to change the boot up and shut down logos, then you can download one of the following zipped files an ignore the rest of the page. If not, there are instructions on installing these customizations below:

• wallpaper.zip (50.1kB) - this file is meant for quick downloading of the wallpaper only. It contains a file named wp-conx.bmp
• logo.zip (133kB) - only contains the three .sys files needed to customize the boot screens for W95+ PCs. File names are logo.sys, logos.sys and logow.sys
• custom.zip (183kB) - this file includes a combination of the two files above; the three logo# files and the wallpaper bitmap.

The above .zip files can be opened with most extraction programs. If you do not have one, you can dowload WinZip for free at their WinZip.com site.

Customization Instructions

I. How to change your W95+ wallpaper: The first thing you need to do is dowload the wallpaper file onto your PC. After doing this, extract (save) the wp-conx.bmp file to your c:\window\ directory. This will add the Conspiracy X wallpaper to all the others that are on your PC already.

The next thing you need to do is adjust your PC's Settings (found in your Start menu). In Settings choose Control Panel, and then Display - this will bring up a window with multiple tabs for adjusting the way your Windows Desktop looks.

• Choose the tab marked 'Appearance' and make sure that your desktop color is black.
• Choose the tab marked 'Background' - making sure your background pattern is set to (None) and the Display Option is set to 'center'. Then use the 'Browse' option to search for the wp-conx.bmp file you just saved in the c:\windows\ directory on your hard drive.

II. How to change your W95+ boot screens: The three screnes that will be effected by this are the one you see when you first boot up Windows, the screne that tells you Windows is shutting down, and the screen that tells you it is safe to turn your computer off. In order to ensure that you do not loose these files (as you will be replacing them) please take the time to back them up:

• In your c:\ drive, create a new folder/directory named something like 'Windows Logo Files' or something that will remind you what these files are.
• Go into your c:\ drive and find the file named logo.sys - copy this file to the archive you created just now.
• Just as above, go into your c:\windows\ directory and find the files named logos.sys and logow.sys - copy these files to the archive you created.

Now you are ready to install the customized Conspiracy X graphics. In order to do this, you need to dowload the logo files onto your PC. After doing this, extract (save) the:

• logo.sys file to your c:\ drive. This will add the Conspiracy X boot screne.
• logow.sys file to your c:\windows\ directory. This will add the Conspiracy X wait screne.
• logos.sys file to your c:\windows\ directory. This will add the Conspiracy X shut-down screne.
